Every term, the whole school explores the same concepts and themes. Depending on the year level, students engage with the content at a different level. Every two years, as the content cycles back around, they can build on their existing knowledge in more meaningful and challenging ways. In Prep-Grade 2 students generally cover the basic science of the topic to build an understanding and then branch out into the Technologies curricula at the end of the term to extend their learning. In Grades 3 and 4, students students cover additional, more abstract science concepts and apply this knowledge using technologies and engineering in a more integrated way. By Grade 5 and 6, students are able to really focus on the theme and think about how these issues are currently being dealt with by society and look at the impacts for the future.
Term 1 - Caring for Populations
How do plants and animals grow?
How do we feed all the people?
How do we clothe and house them?
Students will explore concepts of life cycles and the survival requirements of living things. They will also specifically look at how food is produced.

Term 2 - Resources & Materials
How do we use different materials and resources?
Are some better than others?
How can make sure we don’t run out?
Students will learn about choosing different materials for different purpose. They will also look at how resources are used and managed by society.

Term 3 - Movement, Travel & Transport
How do things move?
How can we travel safely?
How can we travel efficiently?
Students will look at the basic physics of how things move. As they get older, this will specifically extend to modes of transport and the forces that are at play.

Term 4 - Space Exploration
How is space different from Earth?
How do we explore space?
Can we live on another planet?
Students will look at how conditions are vastly different in space compared to Earth and how using space craft and robots are necessary to keep humans safe. They will also work on their coding and robotics skills using a variety of robots, ranging from very simple Bee-Bots for the junior students through to more complex LEGO WeDo and LEGO Mindstorms for older students.
