I just wanted to put out a quick post to say thank you to everyone that has participated or supported our Physical Education and Sport Program this year. It has been a hugely successful year which has seen a wide range of success from within the school to all the way at Nationals. Students have had the opportunity to develop a wide range of skills and experience a lot of different sports/events that they haven't been able to engage with during the pandemic.
Congratulations to all students who achieved their personal bests! Success looks different to everyone and the main focus at TPPS is for us to try our best! Congratulations and thank you to all students that competed within district, division, regional, state and national events this year. It has been fantastic to see so many students put their hands up to compete against other schools and push themselves to achieve at a higher level. Lastly, well done to all Grade 6 students on a fantastic two years with me. It has been a pleasure to teach you all and I wish you all the best in high school and beyond! Students in Grades 3-6 have been working with Target Games, such as Lawn Bowls and Golf, throughout this term. They have developed their force, accuracy and precision to play the correct shots in competitive situations. While this may vary within games, the strategy itself remains the same. This week all students competed in a mini Lawn Bowls or Mini Golf round robin against their classmates. It was a fantastic opportunity to see how their strategy and execution of their skills has developed. We have had a very successful year in sport throughout 2023 and this has continued into Term 4! Last week both the Senior Future Stars and Junior All Star Girls Basketball teams competed in the State Hoop Time Finals. These teams were amongst the top teams within the state out of hundreds of different schools/teams. Both teams fought hard but unfortunately fell short within the knockout rounds. It is a huge achievement to play against some of the best school teams in Victoria and something both teams should be very proud of. Great work to everyone involved in the successes of these two teams! April K from Grade 6 competed in the National Athletics Championships held up in Brisbane throughout Week 7 of Term. She competed in the 100m and 4x100m relay against the best runners in Australia within her age group. April ran really well in her events and even came 3rd in her relay! We are very proud of the hard work and dedication she has put into her running. Keep up the amazing work April! Finally, after Lucas M's success in the Eastern Metro Golf Second Round Competition earlier this month, he competed in the State Final at Gisborne Golf Club against the best primary school golfers in the state. Lucas finished the day on +19. Great work Lucas! It has been fantastic to see so many students working towards their goals within sport this year. We have had a huge amount of success and I look forward to seeing what 2023 has in store for us! Today the school orienteering team competed against a range of schools in the victorian orienteering competition at Westerfolds Park. Students had a map and were given a particularly course within the park for their age group. They had to then find/tag the electronic markers and get to the finish line the quickest. It was a fantastic day which saw TPPS finish 2nd overall in our first event as a school. Congratulations to the students who finished in the top 3 (shown below) in their events and everyone for their efforts! Students from Grades P-5 were treated to a hockey incursion run by Doncaster Hockey Club this week. The coaches introduced a range of different basic skills by playing fun and engaging games such as 'Rob the Nest' and 'Pirates of the Caribbean'. If your child loved the hockey sessions, there are many different teams with openings at Doncaster Hockey Club! Hoop Time Regional finals were held today at Mill Park Stadium. Templestowe Park had 2 teams representing the school. The ‘Pacers’ finished 1st and the ‘Panthers’ finished 3rd out of the 7 competing teams and both went on to play in the finals. The ‘Pacers’ had a strong win in the finals but unfortunately the ‘Panthers’ fell short. Well done to both teams! The Grade 5 and 6 students worked with Chris Roland (PGA Golf Professional from Heidelberg Golf Club) to develop their skills with a golf club. It was a fantastic experience to have a professional come in to teach the basics of how to hold a golf club, how to swing and how to make good contact with the ball. Over the two weeks, we saw a huge progression on their ball striking. Thanks Chris! Earlier this week, Macey H from grade 5D competed in the State Track and Field Championships at Lakeside Stadium. The competition was incredibly strong but unfortunately the race didn’t go as planned. Macey has worked incredibly hard to get to this level and should be proud of her achievements. Great work Macey! We look forward to seeing you in action again next year!
Over the past 3-4 weeks, students in Grades 3-6 have been introduced and developed their orienteering skills. Orienteering has been a new event introduced to TPPS where students must use a map to find challenging markers around an area. Students have spent this term learning to read and orientate a map either by themselves or with a partner while completing a challenging course. All this hard work has prepared students for the orienteering competition held at Westerfolds Park in Week 7! Both the girls and boys basketball teams competed in the district basketball day today in Bulleen. It was a hugely competitive day. The girls played first and won all of their games. They will go on to the next round against Templestowe Valley PS. The boys started off strongly but unfortunately fell short of the final within the final group game. Well done to both teams!
