Thanks to everyone who contributed a domino to our communal tower on Open Night. It didn't fall over once (!!!) and it got about 1.5 metres tall. Andreas from 2N won the luck dip and got to knock it over. We took a time lapse of the tower being constructed and a slo mo of it coming down and you can watch it here.
The Grade 5s and 6s are looking at light this term. They have been using lenses, mirrors and light boxes to examine how light interacts with the real world. We have been talking about how light can be reflected, refracted or absorbed. This week, some classes had a tower building challenge - tallest tower wins! Students showed lots of resilience as towers fell over again and again. We evaluated different designs and talked about the strengths and weaknesses of each. The Grade 2s, 4s and 6s have all been working very hard on their investigations and projects. Grade 1 have been learning how to use a stopwatches this week. They practised timing how long it took each other to complete short activities. This week, the Preps learnt about the 'E' part of STEM. We talked about what Engineering is all about and then used some dominoes to build some small structures. Our focus was about changing and improving our structures and persevering when they fell over! This year, the Grade 2 Science Talent Search investigations will centre around the topic of staying safe from germs. This week, they thought about what they want to know about germs and naturally, a lot of their questions were related to COVID-19. |
