Students have been learning how to play music by reading musical notes and listening to singing. Our instrument this term is the glockenspiel, and Grade 1 & 2 students have been exploring the different parts of the instrument, including how to hold the mallets and get the best sound out of the instrument. Small groups have been playing in time with each other and performing songs to other students in the class. Here is a video of a group practising a short song on the glockenspiel!

All TPPS students got to take part in the Koomurri incursion this week. Students watched Indigenous Australian dance performances by our school visitors, before learning a dance of their own. Grade 1 and 2 students made connections between the dances learned during our incursion and the dances we've explored in the Performing Arts room when we learned about corroborrees.
This week at our school assembly, the Grade 5 & 6 teachers, Mr Roberts, Mr Cleary and Mrs Twyford had a lot of fun performing a short play for the school. Why? To introduce our school production for 2021! After a few technical glitches and forgotten lines, the students had a guess...and they were right! Our school production for Term 3 of 2021 will be...
The Wizard of Oz (Young Performer's Edition)! We are all very excited for the upcoming production. In weeks 8, 9 and 10, Grades 1 and 2 are exploring traditional dances and cultural celebrations from all around the world, in celebration of Harmony Week. Students are learning about corroborees - traditional Aboriginal celebrations - and are creating their own class corroborees.
Students are also learning about 'circle' and 'contra' dances from countries including Greece, the USA, the UK and France and exploring these types of dance and celebrations in their weekly Performing Arts lessons. It's been a busy start to the year in Performing Arts. Students from Grades 2-5 have been busy attending trials for Choir and Percussion Club and are now settling in to regular rehearsals. ![]() Percussion Club is now running in 4-week blocks, due to an overwhelming interest from students! For the remainder of Term 1, a selection of students in Grades 4 and 5 are preparing for a surprising and fun performance. Keep your eyes peeled! In Term 2, different students from Grades 2-5 will have an opportunity to get involved in Percussion Club. |
