The students explored paintings by American artist Alma Thomas, and created their own based on what they had observed in her work.

The students have worked with partners, and have traced around the outline of their body with greyleads. Extra details have been added, in preparation for painting next week. Today the students used blue and white acrylic paint to mix and add colour to the school uniform components of their portraits. We also had time to mix skin colours, appropriate to individual needs. We discussed variations in skin colouring, and how we are all different!
Last night I participated in an awesome PD session with Zart Art. Part of this session was drawing with my non-dominant hand. I thought we could give this a go with Grade 2. The students used thick black markers to draw straight onto cartridge paper, using their ‘wrong hand’, whilst carefully observing the natural objects before them on the tables. The drawings were fantastic and the students were very pleased with the results! Primecolour drawing pencils were used to add fantasy colours to sections of their drawings.
Following on from out Home Learning, the students have had a refresher as to the work of Andy Warhol and his soup can screen prints. They have used a limited colour palette to create their own version of his work.
