The students used scrapers to apply colour to sheets of cartridge paper in preparation for a collage session next week. Instead of paint brushes, they used cardboard to spread the colour across their page.

Today the students were introduced to the abstract artist Gerhard Richter and his unique ‘scraper’ painting style. They examined his paintings and replicated his style, albeit on a much smaller scale! Today the students cut up their paintings and wove them together. Some integrated black cover paper into their design also.
Today the students were introduced to texture. They have used crayons and durablocks to explore rubbing plates, and the idea of overlapping textures. Today the students were brave and ripped up their least favourite rubbing sheet from last week. This was transformed into a collage of the sun.
The students listened to classical music and used this as their inspiration to paint a picture of pure colour, starting with applying the lightest watercolour first. Layers of darker colours were then added over the top. Posca markers were used to practise different mark making on black paper, inspired by the music. Today the students used posca markers to draw details over the top of their paintings from last week.
The students have explored collage in these Valentines pieces. They practised gluing their tissue paper onto the black cartridge paper. In addition they traced around the heart with white crayon and wrote a special message for someone they love.
The students have used watercolour paints to make a picture as though they were immersed inside a rainbow. These paintings will be used as a background next week. Today the students drew a simple black texta self portrait. They carefully cut around it, then used ‘supertac’ for the very first time to attach their drawings to the paintings from last week.
The students have examined owls and their features. They have drawn them onto A3 cartridge paper and added patterns with textas or black crayons. Today the students added colour to their owls, using different sized brushes. Today the students outlined their owl faces with posca markers and visited ‘sequin city’, adding sequins to the chest of their owl for a bit of sparkle.
The students have examined prints by Margaret Preston. They have looked at the features of Australian native flowers and practised drawing them, in her style. Practise sketches have been enlarged onto A3 cartridge paper, then outlined with black texta. Today the students have added watercolour details, using a variety of brush sizes to their sketches from last week. This session the students added pieces of coloured paper to give their paintings a more interesting look.
Today the students looked at ‘The Goldfish’, 1912 by Henri Matisse and discussed what they could see. We broke his painting into sections and looked at how they were drawn. The students drew their own version on a piece of A3 paper, then collaged some fish from old paintings, attaching these to their drawing with supertac. Today the students have used watercolour paint kits to add colour to their pieces from last week. Today the students added finishing touches to their artworks by using coloured pencils, black textas and posca markers.
