The Grade 6 students have been given the task to design a colouring in sheet for the Preppies. They brainstormed things that Preps are interested in, then created a drawing according to their ideas.

The students have further continued their investigation into line. Today they have learnt about warm and cool colours, illustrating hot dogs and cool cats. They have also explored texture with varying lines. Next they use water to gently brush over their texta lines to create a ‘painterly’ effect.
Today the students looked at horizon lines and drew their own on the page. Next they drew some grass and poppies. The poppies were red for remembrance as well as purple to remember the animals involved in conflict. Watercolour paints were used to paint the sky. Today the students used red, purple and black cover paper to create poppies for remembrance. They used supertac to collage these over the top of their landscapes from last week.
The students completed a highly coloured watercolour painting. These will be used as a background for our printmaking next week. Once their backgrounds were finished, the students used pencil to make linear designs on printmaking foam, in preparation for next week. Today the students used black paint, rollers and acetate sheets to print. The students used colour pencils to add colour to sections of some of their black and white prints from last session.
The students have used variety of acrylic paints applied to their page with pop sticks. Brushes have been used to blend the paint, then skewers have been the tools to scratch through the paint. Today the students started cutting out shapes, inspired by Jocelyn Proust.
The Prep students were introduced to Wassily Kandinsky. We spoke about the lines evident in his work and how he was influenced by music. I played ‘Peter and the ‘wolf’ (Prokofiev) and the students shared what line shapes would fit the various instruments. The Prep students learnt about watercolour paint kits and their proper use.
The students have examined the linear work of Hundertwasser and replicated some lines evident in his pieces with oil pastel. They have been looking at foreground and background and attached collaged buildings to their decorated sky. Today the students added strips of special paper cut to size. They have also added sequins for extra embellishments.
The students have been given a backboard of thick cardboard. They have added coloured card and cover paper to this, and started to create a creature with supertac as the adhesive. Today the students have used oil slicks and posca markers to add lines and finish off their work.
The students have been given a piece of paper that has been divided into sections with black paint. We have discussed various lines that were explored last week and drawn these in the various sections.
The students have looked at the organic shapes used by Matisse in his paper cut outs. They have cut out their own versions from the scraped paintings completed last week and collaged these onto a plain coloured background.
